Trip to Water Sewage Treatment Works

Lesson: Geography

Class: Y3 Year: 2017 - 2018

Some thoughts from Ruby Class:

Mr Tingle said humans can only survive without water for 3 days, a camel can live for 15 days, a cat can only survive without water for 2 days and an elephant can only survive 1 day.

Did you know the sea has 97% salt 2% ice and 1% fresh water?  There is a tank that has more oxygen than our own body and if you go in you will sink 7 metres down!  The water is older than the dinosaurs  themselves!  The bugs stank so badly we were almost going to run away!  The water was so stinky we almost passed out!

We got geared up with:hard caps, bright jackets and latex gloves. Then we went on a tour and we had to follow MR.TINGLE on a bright yellow line - it smelt like I was going to throw up!

When we got to the screens we saw lots of poo and baby wipes in a skip that was very full, and it smelt a lot and we all thought we were going to puke. After it went through the screens it went through a mahoosive digesters which has all the bugs in that cleans all the water.

The water place was really smelly and, you had to put rubber gloves on, jackets and hats.  Once you put on the gloves you were not allowed to feel your face and you were not allowed to touch the fence  unless you were about to fall in,or if you were pulling someone else out.

We learnt that if you put the wrong things down the loo the sewage will come out of your taps and will corrupt your whole water system so only put the things that come out of you +tissue down the loo.
