PE
At Ashchurch Primary school we understand and value the importance of physical activity and the positive impact it can have upon children’s lives. Our curriculum is engaging and progressive ensuring children experience a broad range of sporting activities, develop their physical literacy as well as understanding the importance exercise has on the body which will lead to healthy, active lifestyles. In accordance with the national curriculum PE lessons will allow all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
The School Sport Premium will ensure that children are physically active through high quality engaging lessons, are given opportunities to take part in a broad range of physical activity and are able to apply their fundamental skills to a range of sports both within lessons and competitively.
Throughout the school day physical activity is promoted with active lessons, lunchtime games as well as a vast range of extra curricular clubs which are available to all pupils. We employ PE specialists to support our teachers in delivering high quality PE provision for all pupils during lunchtime, curriculum lessons and after school clubs. At Ashchurch, whenever possible we participate in organised sporting events across Tewkesbury and take part in the School games. These competitions and festivals not only give an opportunity for all pupils to experience competition against others, more importantly builds the skills that will help them succeed in life.
In their PE lessons all children will develop their social skills through physical activities that will require them to work with different children and communicate well with others. Children will develop resilience and use a range of strategies to deal with conflict in sporting situations, showing an understanding of fairness and respect. As well as the development of their personal, social and cognitive skills children will have the knowledge and skills which can be applied across a range of physical activities.
